Connecticut’s fastest-growing charity event out to beat last year’s record
Golf Fore the Kids
tournament hopes to surpass $50,000 mark
in its effort to support the quest to find a cure for pediatric cancer
(Hartford, Conn., June 10, 2005) – The numbers can be daunting at times: More than 12,500 children are diagnosed with cancer each year. Every school day, 46 young people – or two classrooms of students – are diagnosed with cancer in this country. More than 2,500 children and adolescents die annually from cancer.
But Alan Osit and Steve Vera, co-chairs of the annual charity golf tournament Golf Fore the Kids, are fighting against these statistics with their own set of numbers: Golf Fore the Kids raised $50,000 for the Jimmy Fund at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Connecticut Children’s Medical Center in 2004 – a 100 percent increase from the 2003 event. During the past two years, the tournament has raised $75,000.
And for this year’s tournament – which is building up to be even more impressive and impactful than 2004’s event – Osit and Vera are looking to surpass the $50,000 mark in their effort to support a cause very near to their hearts: Golf Fore the Kids was inspired by their sons, Jacob Osit and Nicholas Vera, who were diagnosed with cancer at age 4. Both boys endured devastating treatment plans and are now learning how to be little boys again. Their strength and bravery motivated their families to take action to prevent other children from experiencing the same ordeal.
A worthy cause, but also a fun-filled and uplifting event, the 2005 Golf Fore the Kids tournament includes the following:
