For the past 11 years, Golf Fore the Kids has been raising money to help kids who are battling cancer. During this time, we have been overwhelmed by both the number of children diagnosed each year (over 13,000) and the endless support needed to help these kids get better and get them back to the business of just being kids.
At Golf Fore the Kids, we understand that this support can come in many different flavors. So we do the little things like supporting the hospital outreach program at the Hole in the Wall Gang Camp and creating special events for patients of the Hematology/Oncology clinic at Connecticut Children’s. In addition, we have recently begun a new initiative to assist the Clinical Trials program at the Connecticut Children’s Medical Center.
The Clinical Trials program creates new alternatives for cancer patients when traditional treatment options have proven unsuccessful. As an example, a patient with a tumorous form of pediatric cancer, who had already received therapy at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York, was referred to Connecticut Children’s when they learned that the tumor had returned. Due to the success of the expanded program at Connecticut Children’s, they are the only site in New England that hosts the specific trial needed. Through this trial, four cancer-fighting drugs were identified that specifically target the genetic characteristics of the tumor. One year later, a patient who had limited treatment options has seen significant improvements, a stable disease, and is able to be a kid again. Thanks to the Clinical Trials Program at Connecticut Children’s, this story is can be retold for many different children.
Your donation will support the little things that make kid’s lives better and the big things that give kids hope. 100% of the proceeds will be donated to help kids with cancer and 100% of your donation is tax deductible. We sincerely hope that you will support our continued efforts in the battle against childhood cancer.
